Rosie Jones, Holly Peers and Friends: Night Out
Rosie Jones and Holly Peers lead a group glamour shoot built around the theme of a night out with friends.
Group shoots were a favourite device of the men’s press in this period. Putting several well-known models in one feature gave readers more familiar faces for their money, and it gave editors a ready-made story. A night-out theme is among the easiest to sell: everyone understands it, and it lends itself to dressing up, laughter and a relaxed, sociable mood.
Staging a group feature
Getting several models into a single frame is harder than it looks. The photographer has to balance heights, poses and wardrobe so that no one disappears into the background, and has to keep the energy up across a long day. Many group features mix wide ensemble images with smaller pairings and a few solo frames, so each model gets her moment while the overall story stays intact.
Wardrobe does a lot of the work. A coordinated palette, or a deliberate contrast between outfits, helps the set read as one event rather than a collection of separate shoots. Props such as drinks, a sofa or a dressing-table mirror sketch the night out without needing a real venue.
Familiar names together
Both Rosie Jones and Holly Peers were well known to readers of UK glamour at the time, and pairing them with friends gave the feature an easy-going, ensemble feel. It remains one of the better-remembered group sets of the era.
