Holly Peers 2011 Calendar Preview
A first look at the Holly Peers 2011 calendar, one of the solo glamour calendars that filled shop shelves as 2010 drew to a close.
Every autumn the British glamour scene went through the same ritual. The calendars for the coming year were shot over the summer, and by October the previews started to appear: a handful of months released early to build interest before the full product reached the shops for the Christmas season. The Holly Peers 2011 calendar followed exactly that path.
Twelve pictures, one idea
A solo calendar is a different discipline from a magazine spread. A spread tells a short story over a few pages and is gone the following week. A calendar has to hold up on a wall for an entire month, twelve times over, so each image needs to stand on its own. Photographers usually plan the year as a set of contrasts: a winter month in knitwear or a cosy interior, a summer month by the water, a couple of studio shots with strong colour, and something special saved for the cover and for December.
That variety is what a preview is designed to show off. A few sample months give fans a sense of the range of locations and wardrobe without giving the whole year away.
A busy year for the model
Holly Peers was a familiar name to readers of the men’s weeklies and monthlies at the time, and a solo calendar was a natural extension of that profile. For a glamour model, having a calendar under your own name was a clear sign of popularity, since publishers only commissioned them for faces they were confident would sell.
