Holly Peers Presents the New Faces of 2011
Holly Peers hosted this round-up of the models who made their name in glamour during 2011.
Lists were the backbone of lads’-mag publishing. Top tens, end-of-year polls and “ones to watch” features filled pages cheaply, gave readers something to argue about and, crucially, introduced names the audience would be seeing again. The new-faces list was a particular favourite, because it looked forward as well as back.
This edition, covering 2011, came with a host. Holly Peers presented the selection, a common device in features of this kind: an established model introducing the newcomers lends the list a bit of authority and gives the opening page a recognisable face. It also turns a plain ranking into something closer to a showcase.
How a new-faces feature was built
The structure was usually simple. A short introduction set the scene, followed by one entry per model, each with a picture, a name and a line or two of copy. The selection tended to lean on models who had broken through in the weeklies and monthlies over the previous twelve months, so the list doubled as a snapshot of where British glamour stood at the end of the year.
Readers often returned to these features later to see which names had gone on to bigger things. In that sense a list from 2011 is a small piece of history, a record of who was being talked about at one particular moment.
The original pictures belong to their publishers and are not reproduced here; this page is a written record of the feature only.
